Over the last ten years I have made more than 65 artist's books.  Many of them are altered books, which I create by cutting, painting, collaging and/or sewing the pages of an existing book.  The original book could be anything -- I have used vintage travel books, religious tracts, city guides, a book of river maps, a "Polk Directory," a compilation of Nazi photographs, an Armani look book, a child's board book, and a vintage Chrysler Motors sales brochure.  Other books are created from scratch and bound into book form.  Most of them are recognizable as "a book" but sometimes the reader must use a little imagination to discover the bookish-ness of the final piece.
